Come stretch your mind in thinking about our Great God and his Great Church and his Great purposes for us and our world.  The bible literally talks about some really "great" stuff.  In fact, there are only a few statements where scripture uses the word "great" and these references happen to do with the church.  This month we're looking at how God wants to build a great church.  Relax, this is not about us doing great or super things but rather about each of us doing the ordinary things, but often the things we least like, for a Great God with a great purpose and with great compassion.  Why?  Because our Lord, our creator, our Savior, our heavenly father, our Great God calls us do these things!  Exciting!  A daily adventure?  You bet.  A challenge like no other.  Ready?

As someone wrote, "A Great Church is when the people in the church make a Great Commitment to the Great Commandments and the Great Commission and do those with Great Compassion!"   A few Sundays past we looked at the Great Commandments and how the apostle Paul simplified things into one simple thing - serve others.  We looked at the Great Commission as involving maturity plus ministry plus mission.  We also looked at the Great Compassion and the challenge to compassionate service.  You see a church should be a place which offers you a place to connect with God, a place to discover significance and a place to join others in a larger way of making a difference in this world and eternity. 

This week we'lll take a look at the story of the Prodigal Son and liken his return to his family to the church.  Yes, a church should be a place you can call hiome.  I hope you get a sense of what a marvelous place a God-honoring church can be in your life and that you can give a great commitment to being an active part of church whether here at MFMC or where the Lord would lead you. 

MFMC offers you ways to serve and this week you'll hear some guest from our city and a like-minded church challenge us with an opportunity to help our spanish speaking community in Marysville.  Hope to see you then.

Some new small groups and Sunday morning life groups will be starting in February so look for the information table on Sunday  and in the program on Sunday morning, as well on this web site.   Lots of opportunities for you to grow spiritually so you can discover how to make a difference in this world.
